Horses in the Barn
|
| This page gives you the opportunity to
meet some of the horses that have had a major influence on Alex's
career. Some are still living at Alex's family's farm in
Sunshine, MD, others have gone on to new owners and different lives! |

Pumpernickel
“Pumpernickel” is a 1997 ¾ Thoroughbred ¼
Clydesdale Gelding. He is by BFF Incognito and out of Peaches, a
legendary Mane Manor hunt mare. Pumpernickel was born at the farm and
has spent his entire life there. He was Alex’s first event horse
and they competed together through the Preliminary level. At one time,
he was the USEA #1 Training Horse and was awarded the Equiery Bowl the
same year. Alex also attained her B and A rating aboard Pumpernickel.
Alex's sister Molly attained her B rating on him. He is
currently enjoying a life full of foxhunting with Alex's mom, both with
packs in Maryland and Aiken, South Carolina. He truly is a
family
horse and will have a home at Mane Manor forever. |

Carakat
“Taz” is a 1993 Thoroughbred Mare. Taz belongs to Tara
Ziegler and Alex was lucky enough to compete Taz in 2006 and 2007. Taz
and Alex spent 2006 at the Preliminary level, completing the
Virginia CCI* and representing Area II at the North American Junior
Young Riders Championships, where they earned a team silver medal and
individual 6th place. In 2007, Taz and Alex competed at the
Intermediate level, with top placings at several events, including a
5th place finish at the Virginia CIC**. They were again selected to
represent Area II and competed at the 2007 NAJYRC on the CCI** team,
with a highlight being their double clear cross country round.
Alex retired Taz from upper level competition after the 2007 season.
At
the 2007 USEA Area II Awards Banquet, Taz was honored for her
contribution to the Area II Young Rider Program with a trophy in her
name. The “Carakat Award” will be given yearly to a horse
and rider pair who best represent the ideals emphasized by the Young
Rider Program. Taz is currently living out her retirement in New York.

Sunshine Stalker
“Sunshine” is a 2002 Thoroughbred Gelding. He came off the
racetrack in July of '07. Sunshine enjoyed a sucessful career at
Training level, with many top placings. Sunshine was ready to
move up to Preliminary when he left Alex and their last event together
was a PT division, where he finished on his dressage score to place
3rd. Sunshine was also a regular in the hunt field and was a joy
to ride. Alex and Sunshine also competed in a Timber Race at the
HCIBH Hunt Races in 2010. This was always a dream of Alex's and
they had a great race, finishing 2nd by a nose.
Sunshine is currently competing very successfully on the Hunter
Circuit, where he has become the horse to beat in the Working
Hunter Classes. . |

Checkout the Charmer
“Charmer” is a 2004 16.1HH Thoroughbred Mare. Charmer was
one of Alex's all time favorite event horses. She really
understood the sport and quickly progressed through the levels, winning
her first Preliminary by the age of 5. Alex took Charmer to the
Bromont CCI* in the spring of her 6yo year, where they finished in the
top 20.
Charmer was sold soon after Bromont to an adult amateur. The good
news is that she is still in the area, so Alex gets to see Charmer
frequently! |

Savannah
“Savannah” is a 1998 ¾ TB ¼ Clydesdale Mare.
Savannah is the mount of Alex’s younger sister Molly. Molly has
brought Savannah through the levels of eventing herself. In 2007,
Molly was honored with the Equiery Bowl for her success at the Training
level and made her debut at Preliminary. In 2008, Molly
campaigned Savannah at the
Preliminary level, including a spot on the Area II NAJYRC Team where
they finished as the highest place Area II rider in 14th. In
2009, Molly continued to compete Savannah at Preliminary and was again
selected to compete on the Area II NAJYRC Team. This time, the
team won the gold medal and Molly and Savannah finished in 4th place
individually, completing the event on their dressage score (one of only
3 riders to do so!). The pair then moved up to Intermediate and
after a season of horse trials, contested the 2011 Bromont CCI**, where
they completed and had an absolutely foot perfect cross country round.
We are pretty proud of this pair!

Doughoreagan
“Doughoreagan” is a 2001 ¾ TB ¼ Clydesdale
Gelding. He is a full brother to Pumpernickel and has also spent his
entire life at Mane Manor. Doughoreagan’s primary role is as a
foxhunter and he has experience with many hunts throughout Maryland and
South Carolina.
After 10 years at Mane Manor, we made the difficult decision to sell
Doughoreagan to another hunting home. But we know he has a
fabulous farm and a lot of fun leading the field of Millbrook Hunt in
New York. |
