| Winter Update |
A lot of things have gone on these past few
months...here's an attempt at an update.
As far as school goes, I just finished up my 1st semester of my 2nd
year at Penn Vet, and things are going well- getting more interesting
but I'm definitely looking forward to the end of classes and the
beginning of clinics in another year. I was home for 5 days at
Thanksgiving and for 3 weeks over Christmas, and have been able to get
in some good riding.
I started out the Thanksgiving week by attending the Maryland Racing
Media Association Awards Banquet, where I was awarded with the largest
scholarship of the organization - I am very thankful to have been
honored with this award. The MRMA is a great organization and I
have received one on of their scholarships every year for several years
now. I was also able to hunt a couple times over Thanksgiving on
several very nice young prospects.
I am now finishing up my Christmas break, and it's been a great three
weeks. Lisa Reid has her young horse, Bravo, with me in boot camp
at the farm and I have been having a lot of fun with him - he's a real
classy horse and has such talent. I have also had Tiara in
substantial work and she is really coming along nicely. I have
some new videos of her (Tiara Videos) that really showcase how far she has
come. I've been hunting quite frequently on 2 different horses.
Liz Lavine's young mare Flipper is practically a made field
hunter now and is looking for a new home, contact me if you are
interested in seeing her go. Lisa Reid's Magic has also hunted
several times now and is really coming along, and is for sale as well.
With the break coming to a close, I am getting ready to head back to
Philly and my mom and sister are packing to head south. Tiara
will head to Aiken with my mom, and hopefully I will be able to get
down there during the semester and get some riding in. Hope
everyone had a wonderful holiday and best wishes for a happy new year!

| Tiara comes
close to doing it again, 2nd at Waredaca by .1 points! |
Well we had another fabulous event yesterday at
Waredaca, capping off the season with a 2nd place finish (out of 20
starters) at Waredaca. Tiara did a very workmanlike, accurate
dressage test to score a 30. She warmed up great for Show
Jumping, and with 3 horses left to jump before her turn, the rain
started to pour down. Even with the distraction, she went in and
jumped an outstanding round, leaving all the rails up! After we
came out of the ring, a hold was put on the show, so we went to the
barns to wait out the storm. Then on to xcountry..a huge course
with lots of challenging questions...Tiara jumped around like a champ,
not a problem anywhere! So we finished the day in 2nd place, just
.1 points behind first, not too shabby for her second Training level.
I have 2 more weeks left here in Sunshine before Aspen and I head back
to Philly. I will be jamming as much riding and teaching into my
time as possible, as I know I will be missing all of it come January in
the city.

| Tiara Wins at
Fair Hill! |
We had a great day yesterday, with Tiara's
Training level debut at Fair Hill. She had an absolutely lovely
dressage test, steady and consistent, to lead the class with a 29.
Then a very smooth ride over a very challenging stadium course,
she just tapped a rail but still managed to keep the lead. A
beautiful cross country course, with absolutely no question on her
part, capped off the day and sealed the win! So exciting for us
and it really confirms that this is quite a talented horse. Check
out her details on the Sales Page.
Next up, Waredaca this coming weekend. Check back for updates! |
How time flies...
7/10/11 |
Wow, a lot of things have happened since I
last updated, time to get everyone up to speed on what's going on!
I guess you could say that the biggest event is that I successfully
made it through my first year of veterinary school at the University of
Pennsylvania. It was a great year, but extremely challenging, and
I'm glad to have one under my belt. Living in West Philly is sure
different than farm life, but after an adjustment period for both Aspen
and me, we got into the swing of things. I finished up in late
May and headed back to Maryland. I was just home for a few days
when I headed off again, this time to Costa Rica for a small animal
service trip. After many spays, neuters and consults, I can now
say that I feel a little more comfortable with dogs and cats! I
also have an externship at Virginia Equine Imaging (a wonderful sports
medicine clinic) in July and I am sure I will learn a ton there as
well.
Now, on to the horses. Last summer, after a successful go at
Bromont, I sold Charmer to a wonderful adult amateur in the Maryland
area. Charmer was a very special horse for me and I am glad she
found such a good home and that I can still pop in and check on her
from time to time. Sunshine went to a hunter farm in Virginia and
has had a lot of success as a working hunter in very competitive
classes (who
would've thought?!) and my young mare Skye headed to a large
foxhunting farm where she gets to do what she loves best..run and jump!
With all my horses in good new homes before I left for school, I
could truly focus on my curriculum and making the most out of
veterinary school. But, the monkey on my back started screaming
and I couldn't stay away for too long...
This past winter we got a new horse into the barn, BFF Tiara, and when
I got home from school I decided she was something special. I
began working with her this summer and have already taken her to one
event, where she was a rockstar. She will go to several more
events this summer with hopes of selling her, but who knows..she might
stick around a little while longer to see what she can do. I am
also back teaching lessons, clinics and riding for some clients, let me
know if you would like to be added to the schedule!
In other news, Molly campaigned her mare, Savannah, at Intermediate
this spring, capping off the season with a clear cross country round
and completion at the Bromont CCI**. That's quite a success for a
pair who started off together at Beginner Novice back in their younger
years.
I think that's it for now... Be sure to give me a call if I can
help anyone with anything they might need! And check out Tiara on
the Sales Page!
