| About Us
Alex
began riding at the young age of 4 and got most of her early experience
in the hunt field of Howard County -Iron Bridge Hounds. She entered the
show world early on, competing in the hunter-jumper ring as well as
participating actively in the United States Pony Club. Alex first
became introduced to the sport of eventing at the age of 12 and was
immediately hooked. After her first novice event, she dedicated herself
to succeeding in all aspects of this sport.
Alex
has quickly moved up the ranks of eventing and has had many successes
with several different horses. After her first Novice event on one of
her early ponies, Alex competed one of the farm’s homebreds,
Pumpernickel, through the Training level, gaining a national ranking
for both horse and rider during their Training season. It was aboard
this horse that Alex got her first experience in upper level
competition, as the pair completed their first Preliminary event in
2003. Alex has gone on to compete several horses at the Preliminary
level and above, most notably Carakat, who was Alex’s competition
partner for the 2006 and 2007 seasons. This pair was fortunate enough
to
represent Area II at the North American Junior Young Riders
Championship at both the CCI* and CCI** level in 2006 and 2007,
respectively. More recent upper level mounts include Checkout the
Charmer, Juliet and Sunshine Stalker.
Alex
especially enjoys working with younger, inexperienced horses and
bringing them along through the beginning levels of eventing.
Throughout the years, she has introduced countless young horses
to the sport of eventing and many of these horses have gone on to enjoy
successful careers with other riders.
Alex
has been fortunate enough to work with many of this country’s top
trainers including Gretchen Butts, Paul Ebersole, Carol Kozlowski,
Lauren and David O’Brien, and Bill Hoos. Working with these top
riders has had a large impact on her training and coaching
philosophies.
Alex
is a graduate "A" Pony Clubber, and still remains active with the
organization. She is also a licensed Maryland Thoroughbred Exercise
Rider and has worked at the Laurel Racetrack and various Thoroughbred
farms galloping racehorses.
Although
the equestrian world is a major part of Alex’s life, she cannot
stress enough the importance of education. She is a 2009 graduate from
Vanderbilt University and is currently pursuing a degree in Veterinary
Medicine, expecting to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania
Veterinary School in 2014.
Although her course schedule and schooling is rigorous, Alex is working
hard to remain active in the equine industry by competing younger
horses and continuing to teach and coach.
